In rural areas such as southern West Virginia and south central Virginia, the effects of the lack of pet population control are painfully obvious along every roadside. Highways are literally littered with the corpses of irresponsibility.
Government sponsored animal control agencies do what they can, but their resources are limited and their techniques Draconian. An animal picked up by animal services has generally been given less than two weeks to live, and only a small fraction are ever adopted. It isn't a question of inhumanity, merely cold, heartless numbers.
The Mongomnery County Humane Society does what it can to give disgarded strays a second chance at life. It maintains a "no-kill" animal shelter, housing abandoned animals until they are adopted or die of natural causes. Sadly though, this is terribly expensive, and space is sorely limited.
The Society is currently in the process of trying to raise funds for the expansion and modernization of their facilities. Every dollar saved on food and other supplies is a dollar which can go to this cause.
Yeager is helping collect food and bedding supplies for this very special cause.
